Nepal is a landlocked country in South Asia. With an estimated population of 26.4 million. It borders China in the north and India in the south, east and west. Nepal has a diverse geography, including fertile plains, subalpine forested hills, and eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, including Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. Nepal is also called “a land of Diversity”.
When it comes to food, the food of Nepal is as diverse as the country itself. Nepal also presents diversity in its eating habits and there are varieties of foods consumed in the different regions of the country. The food consumed by the people living in fertile plains and subalpine forested hills differs from the food consumed by the people living in the Himalayas. Special foods are prepared during festivals, and on other special occasions. A festive meal, like one served during a marriage, is a real treat, and includes vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian dishes.
